The series is often listed as one of the best ones from 2016. The Hope Arc finale earned positive responses for closing Makoto's and Hajime's stories. Some critics felt that the narrative was far darker than the video games, to the point it was hard to become attached to the new cast or returning members who die in the story. Future Arc and Despair Arc were the subjects of mixed reviews because, rather than the original run of the series in Japan where they aired together, Funimation marketed them separately. ![]() The returning cast from the games was regarded as likeable. Funimation, Madman Entertainment, and Animax Asia licensed the three parts for English regions.Ĭritics felt that The End of Hope's Peak High School was an attractive anime sequel to the video games, based on the casting. A spin-off manga, Danganronpa Gaiden: Killer Killer, was serialized in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine between March 2016 and May 2017. He and his team, working on a television series for the first time, found the project challenging. Despite the dark narrative, Kodaka wanted to give the anime a proper conclusion through the one-episode finale, Hope Arc, despite being accused of pandering to the base because he intended to give it a happy ending. He aimed to create an original storyline that would not work as another video game, unlike previous works from the franchise. Writer Kazutaka Kodaka conceived of the project. They were followed by Hope Arc, the conclusion to both previous arcs, which aired on September 29, 2016. The first two story arcs aired between July and September 2016. Future Arc focuses on Makoto Naegi and his friends and their involvement in a killing game with the Future Foundation and Despair Arc focuses on Hajime Hinata, a student, and his involvement in experiments on humans. The anime is the second animated series based on Spike Chunsoft's Danganronpa video game franchise, and serves as a conclusion to the "Hope's Peak Academy" arc established in the previously released games Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. It's also not particularly popular as it skimps out on the investigation segments.Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School is a mystery horror anime television series produced by Lerche, directed by Daiki Fukuoka, and supervised by Seiji Kishi. It is just an adaptation of the first game and brings nothing new to the table. Absolutely do not watch it until you've played that.Īs for the anime adaptation of the first game, it really makes no difference either way. This anime is the sequel to Goodbye Despair. I'm not gonna' allow myself to watch this anime until I can purchase and finish Goodbye I do manage to get round in playing Goodbye Despair, would you recommend that I watch the anime adaptation of the first game before I watch these new ones? I was a little disappointed that the main character from Trigger Happy Havoc and the amazing Kirigiri Kyouko weren't returning in the sequel, yet the annoying Togami Byakuya for whatever reason is, but with.interesting changes? I can't spend much at the moment, and I already decided that the next game I'd allow myself to afford would be the new Zero Escape. I haven't had the chance to play Trigger Happy Havoc's sequel ' Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair' yet unfortunately. I love murder/mystery stuff! As much as I love Zero Escape, I enjoyed playing Trigger Happy Havoc more because I greatly enjoyed the process of gathering all of the evidence you could find, and then using them in a pretty interested court-like system in figuring out and proving who committed the murder. Having greatly enjoyed the Zero Escape series (and currently enjoying playing the newest one that was released on Steam not too long ago) I purchased Trigger Happy Havoc almost instantly after reading its premise. I played the first game ( Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc) earlier this year when it was released to Steam.
